The Joseph T. Buba Department of Physics and Technology offers instruction in engineering, astronomy, electronics, physics and manufacturing engineering technology. It prepares students for rapid employment in industrial research or advanced study in graduate school, and emphasizes small class sizes for personalized attention and assistance.

The Physics programs offer a broad background in fundamental physics while delivering specialized experiences in astronomical applications. The department participates in a cooperative engineering dual program—sometimes called a “3+2” program. As part of the 3/2 engineering track, students complete three years of study at Edinboro in basic science, math and introductory engineering followed by two years or more of study at a cooperating university to complete their engineering degree requirements. The student receives both an Edinboro degree and an engineering degree from the cooperating university.

The Department’s Technology component prepares students for placements in industry, manufacturing and applied technology, as well as positions that require financial planning and marketing decision-making for industrial firms. Paid internships at high-profile firms in the greater Erie area, graduate assistantships and summer research initiatives are available to department students.

Unleash your potential with a degree in Physics. Read success stories from alumni making the most of their Edinboro experience.
