Edinboro University offers a wide array of graduate assistantship positions. These assistantships are excellent ways to make contacts and gain valuable experience.

Students can apply for a graduate assistantship two ways:

          Eligibility

Approximately 120 competitive graduate assistantships are available each year. Full-time students who have been accepted into a master’s degree program are eligible. Assistantships are awarded by the School of Graduate Studies & Research based primarily on the recommendations of the program head. Students who are employed full-time at the University or elsewhere are ineligible.  The following must be met in order to be eligible for an assistantship:

          • Acceptance into a graduate program,
          • Enrollment for full-time study (9 credits) and
          • Acceptance by the director of the office where assigned.

Please note: Full-time graduate assistantships cover a maximum of nine (9) credits of tuition per semester; fees NOT included. If a GA enrolls in more than nine (9) credits (15 credits a semester is the maximum a graduate student can schedule) they must cover additional tuition costs at their own expense. Half-time graduate assistants will receive a 4.5 credit waiver per semester.

          Awards

Two types of Graduate Assistantships are available:

          Full-time:

Full-time assistantships are for Fall and/or Spring semesters. Summers are not included. Graduate assistants must be enrolled full-time, in a minimum of 9 semester hours and a maximum of 15. Full-time assistants receive remission of course tuition, but must pay University fees. They receive a stipend of $2,025 per semester ($7.50 per hour/270 hours) and work 18 hours a week.

          Half-time:

Half-time assistantships are for Fall and/or Spring semesters. Summers are not included. Graduate assistants must be enrolled full-time, in a minimum of 9 semester hours and a maximum of 15. Part-time graduate assistants receive remission of one-half of course tuition, but must pay University fees. They receive a stipend of $1,012 per semester ($7.50 per hour/135 hours) and work 9 hours a week.

Assistantships in residential life also include a waiver of charges for a private room in the residence hall and a telephone. A limited number of prorated Assistantships are available for the summer.
