          Boro Autism Support Initiative for Success

          The Boro Autism Support Initiative for Success (BASIS) program was developed to help students with autism make a smooth transition into college life and achieve academic success.

          The Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) at Edinboro University is widely recognized as one of the leading universities in the nation in providing services to students with disabilities. The OSD at EU has been committed to excellence in providing access to educational opportunities for more than 40 years.

          In order to provide opportunities to otherwise qualified degree seeking college students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) to achieve excellence in all areas of their university experience, professionals within the Office for Students with Disabilities have developed the Boro Autism Support Initiative for Success (BASIS) program.

          The BASIS Program

          The Boro Autism Support Initiative for Success (BASIS) is an individualized support program available for enrolled Edinboro University students. The BASIS team will work with students to identify individual needs and provide support in 5 key areas:

          1. Academics
          2. Communication
          3. Daily Living Skills
          4. Employment Readiness
          5. Social Skills

          BASIS Services Include:

          • Social and Academic Peer Advising
          • Weekly Sessions with Transition Coach
          • Testing and Classroom Accommodations
          • Writing Specialist Services
          • Social Activities

          This program is available at $2,500 per semester. Funding may be available for students to offset cost.

          BASIS Summer College Academy (non-residential)

          Date: June 19-29, 2017 (Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.)
          Location: Porreco College
          Age Group: Students ages 14-17
          Cost: $1,500 (Funding may be available for students to offset any cost.)

          The BASIS Summer College Academy is a two-week non-residential summer program designed to meet the needs of students entering grades 11 or 12 in Fall 2017 with an interest in attending college. Through experiential learning and group activities, students will be introduced to University staff from various departments and learn about transitioning to college and the expectations of University life inside and outside the classroom.

          Why BASIS Summer College Academy?

          • Develop and improve skills that will benefit students as they progress through high school to college.
          • Promote short- and long-term goals for achieving personal and academic success through pursuit of higher education, leading to employment.
          • Discover University resources, including what a disability service office offers.
          • Learn how to be part of a campus community and build skills including social communication, responsibility, advocacy and organization.
          • Meet new people and make friends!
